We've worked with thousands of wedding bouquets at Wild Coast Flower Preservation, and one thing we've learned is that the sooner you plan for preservation, the easier the entire experience becomes.

That doesn't mean you're out of luck if your wedding is next weekend or even if you just got married. We regularly hear from brides who didn't know bouquet preservation was an option until after their wedding.

But if you have the opportunity to plan ahead, we definitely recommend it.

Here's what you should know about booking your wedding bouquet preservation, keeping your flowers fresh, and getting them safely to our studio.

Why Does Booking Wedding Bouquet Preservation Early Matter?

There are two important parts to preserving your wedding bouquet: reserving your preservation service and making sure your flowers reach us while they're still in good condition.

Booking ahead gives you time to figure out both.

Unlike ordering a wedding accessory that can be shipped to your house weeks before the big day, bouquet preservation involves working with fresh flowers that have a very limited window before they begin to deteriorate.

Once your wedding is over, the clock starts ticking.

Flowers begin losing moisture, petals can bruise, and delicate varieties may start changing color or dropping petals. The longer they sit without proper care, the more challenging preservation can become.

By reserving your wedding date ahead of time, you can have your preservation plans in place before the wedding even begins.

You'll know where your bouquet needs to go, how to prepare it, and who will be responsible for getting it there.

And that's one less thing to figure out after a very long wedding day.

When Is the Best Time to Book Wedding Bouquet Preservation?

6-12 Months Before Your Wedding

If you’re planning your wedding, this is the best time to start researching flower preservation options. Look at different preservation styles—pressed, resin, or whole flower preservation—and choose a service that aligns with your vision.

3-6 Months Before Your Wedding

At this stage, you should secure your booking by placing a deposit. Many preservationists require a reservation fee to hold your date, ensuring they have the capacity to work on your bouquet after your wedding.

• Learn about packaging and shipping instructions (if applicable)

1 Month Before Your Wedding

As your wedding day approaches, it’s a good time to review instructions for sending your bouquet. Some preservationists offer bouquet collection services, while others require you to ship your flowers promptly.

• Confirm bouquet drop-off, bouquet pickup, or shipping details

• Assign a trusted person to handle post-wedding flower care

• Prepare your packing supplies (paper towel, scissors, packing tape, a medium box)

Immediately After the Wedding

The first 24-48 hours after your wedding are crucial for preservation. Flowers start wilting quickly, so proper storage and fast shipment are key to maintaining their beauty.

• Keep your bouquet in a cool place, away from direct sunlight

• Only if the flowers start to wilt, put the vase of flowers in a refrigerator but not too cold as to freeze (condensation and freezing temperature can cause damage)

• Send your bouquet to your preservationist as soon as possible

What If You Forgot to Book Bouquet Preservation?

First, don't throw away your flowers!

We hear from brides all the time who discover flower preservation after their wedding.

Maybe you saw a preserved bouquet on social media. Maybe a friend mentioned it. Or maybe you got home, looked at your flowers sitting in a vase, and realized you weren't ready to part with them.

It happens.

We do accept last-minute bouquet preservation requests when our schedule allows.

What If Your Flowers Have Already Started Wilting?

Some flowers may still be suitable for preservation even if they aren't looking their best. Others may be too damaged or deteriorated to produce a result we'd be comfortable recommending.

Every bouquet is different, and the condition of the individual flowers matters more than simply how many days have passed.

The best thing you can do is reach out quickly rather than wait another day to decide.

What If Your Wedding Flowers Are Already Gone?

You may still have options.

Some customers choose to have their florist recreate a bouquet using the same flower varieties and colors from their wedding.

While it won't be the original bouquet you carried down the aisle, it can still become a meaningful keepsake inspired by your wedding flowers.

If you're considering this option, we recommend sharing photographs of your original bouquet with your florist and discussing the recreation with our team before purchasing replacement flowers.

Do You Have to Choose Your Preservation Products Before the Wedding?

Not necessarily.

One of the reasons we encourage brides to reserve their dates early is that it gives them time to think about what they'd like to create.

Maybe you originally imagined one large block, but after looking through our gallery, you realize you'd rather have a serving tray and several smaller keepsakes.

After preserving thousands of bouquets, we've seen how much easier the process is when couples know what to expect.

• Waiting until the wedding is over to research preservation. You may still be able to book, but your options could be more limited.

• Assuming your florist will handle preservation arrangements. Unless you've discussed it, don't assume your bouquet will automatically be saved or transported.

• Leaving flowers in a hot car or hotel room. Even a few hours of heat can affect delicate blooms.

• Shipping without reviewing instructions. Improper packaging can damage flowers before they reach the studio.

• Expecting dried flowers to look identical to fresh flowers. Understanding natural color and texture changes ahead of time makes the design process much easier.
