Youve probably seen it on TikTok or Instagram: a clear liquid coating flowers, or a bouquet suspended inside a crystal-clear block. Its one of those oddly satisfying, brain-tingly videos to watch.

But the real question is the one brides ask us every day:

What happens between I shipped my flowers and my keepsake arrived?

So here's the full picture, from the moment your blooms arrive to the day a finished piece comes out of our Sanding and Buffing Department.

What Resin Flower Preservation Is (And What Its Not)

Resin flower preservation is the process of taking real flowers, drying them completely, then encasing them in a solid form using clear epoxy resin.

At Wild Coast, resin is our preferred preservation medium because it creates keepsakes that are:

Whole Flower Resin Preservation (3D): How It Works

Whole flower preservation starts with your actual blooms, the ones you held at the altar. We dry them to remove moisture, then encase them in UV-resistant, food-safe epoxy resin so they stay suspended in three dimensions inside a solid, crystal-clear form.

The result is dimensional the way a bouquet is dimensional:

·         A garden rose still has depth.

·         A spray of eucalyptus still arcs the way it did in your hand.

·         You can view the flowers from multiple angles because the resin surrounds them completely.

This is different from traditional pressed flower preservation, which lays flowers flat and creates something more graphic and wall-art oriented.

Pressed Flower Resin Preservation: The Thin, Functional Option

Pressed flower resin pieces are incredibly thin, lightweight, and made for daily use. If you love a clean, modern look, pressed flower preservation may be your style.

Not All Resin Is Equal (Clarity and UV Resistance Matter)

Some resin yellows quickly. Some cures with haze. Some is more prone to bubbles.

Weve tested brands, refined our process, and selected a top-tier UV-resistant resin formula designed for long-term clarity. That's a big part of why our finished pieces look like optical glass instead of cloudy plastic.

The Drying Foundation Everything Depends On

Fresh flowers cannot be cast in resin without being fully dehydrated or dried.  We use silica gel drying as our primary method. Silica pulls moisture out gradually and helps flowers keep their natural shape and dimension.

For certain delicate petals and leaves, we may layer techniques using our QuadDry Preservation Method:

·         Silica gel drying (primary)

·         Paper pressing (thin or fragile material)

·         Microwave pressing (when speed and delicacy are both needed)

·         Freeze drying (for specialized blooms)

Drying takes 4 to 8 weeks. There is no shortcut here. The slower timeline is part of what makes the finished piece look the way it does.

Design Approval: The Green Light

After drying, your flowers go to our Design Room. Our designers review:

·         Your order notes

·         Any inspiration you shared

·         Photos of your fresh bouquet (if provided)

Then we build one thoughtful layout per piece and send it for your review. We also reserve this time to discuss color correction or flower substitutions using our dried flower library. 

Nothing enters the Resin Room until you approve the design.

The Layered Resin Pour (Why Its Not One Big Pour)

Resin keepsakes are not poured in one shot. Building them in layers is what keeps flowers positioned correctly and the piece optically clear.

Here's what the sequence looks like:

1.      First layer: flowers are placed into the mold, matching the approved design. The first resin layer is poured and left to cure.

2.      Trim and rotate: the next day, excess flower material is trimmed so the piece stays even. The mold is rotated so the next layer cures flat.

3.      Second and final layers: additional resin is poured over the following days, encasing the flowers completely.

4.      Demold and inspect: once curing is complete, the piece comes out of the mold and every surface is inspected.

The Drill-and-Fill Bubble Fix

Even with careful layering, larger air bubbles can appear after demold. When one shows up, we don't sand around it or leave it.

We drill precisely to the bubble and fill it so it blends into the surrounding resin.

This step is invisible in the finished piece, which is exactly the point.

The Grand Reveal (Yes, Were Seeing It for the First Time Too)

Here's something people are often surprised to hear: our team doesn't see the final look of a piece until it comes out of the mold.

Flowers can shift color once they're sealed in resin. It doesn't happen to every bloom, but it can happen, and once a flower is encased, that color is set.

So demolding is genuinely new information for the artisans in the room. We call it the grand reveal.

Sanding and Buffing to a Mirror Finish

A demolded resin piece is not finished yet. After demold, the piece waits a full 7 days to reach maximum hardness.

Then it moves to our Sanding and Buffing Department for finishing by hand. We work through a progressive sanding sequence from coarse to ultra-fine grit, then buff and polish until the surface is smooth, clear, and glossy.

What the Finished Piece Is Like (And What to Expect)

A finished whole-flower resin keepsake is a solid object with real weight. You can hold it, turn it in the light, and see depth and layers inside.

A few natural variations to expect:

·         Micro-bubbles: larger bubbles get drill-and-fill. Tiny micro-bubbles are uncommon but can occasionally appear as subtle texture.

When to Ship Your Bouquet (Timing Tips)

Fresh flowers hold the best color and shape through drying.
